AIM Tri Team: New England Women's Tri Team

News/Info

We are a new women's triathlon club, AIM Tri Team. The AIM acronym is for Achieve, Inspire, Motivate. Our public website is aimtriteam.org, and information can be sent to info@aimtriteam.org.

Our group started as a small number of women from a local health club who trained for the New England area Danskin sprint. That small number grew to a core of about 20 who continued to train together, not only for Danskin but other sprints and some olympic distances as well. We have 2 USAT certified tri coaches associated with us, as well as a swim coach and track coach. Last year we decided to take the next step and organize. We planned a kick-off meeting for Feb 8, and prior to that an article was printed about the formation of the team, and notices/flyers of active recruitment went out. We planned to cap membership at 50 our first year.

The interest, however, was huge! We had a waiting list going in to our kick-off meeting and ended up opening membership to 75. Ages from 20's to 60's, all levels of experience from newbies to some planning half ims and marathons.

One of our major sponsors is FastSplits, a multisport store run by athletes that offers training in addition to product. We were extremely fortunate to have Karen Smyers and Karl Small come from Fastsplits to speak at our meeting.

Anyway, the address we're using is that of co-president Carol Urquiola (she should have been president but we were nominated as co-presidents and it stuck!), 3 Maddy Lane, Acton, MA 01720. We are registered with USAT and are on their list of MA tri clubs with link to aimtriteam.org.
