 Where do Women Triathletes Come From?

We have surveyed women triathletes from all over the country asking which of the triathlon events they participated in first, second and third. USAT Women’s Committee is interesting expanding interest in triathlons and we want to know where to look. Here’s the results so far (updated on October 2, 2003):

FIRST SPORT/ SECOND SPORT -- %women surveyed
RUN / BIKE -- 31%
RUN / SWIM -- 16%
BIKE / RUN -- 19%
BIKE / SWIM -- 3%
SWIM / BIKE --10%
SWIM / RUN -- 21%


Here's some more statistics too:
Average age women started to do triathlons = 31 years old. (range 22 - 49)
There are two large groups: those who have been doing triahtlons for 15-25 years and those with less than 5 years. Very few in between.
